Eli started her training in 2006 at the Institute of Counselling in Glasgow where she specialised in Couples and Family issues, Grief and Bereavement, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.

While working as a private practitioner, she continued with professional development courses (CPD) related to Couples and Family issues and Traumas at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships.

Interested in psychodynamic psychotherapy, she pursued further studies at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust with a final certification in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the University of Essex.

She also completed a post-graduate psychotherapy degree at the University Claude Bernard 1 with residency at the psychiatric CHU hospital Vinatier in Lyon.

She continues with residential and summer schools at the Tavistock Centre to further her experience in relationships and families.

Eli works within the BACP framework of code of ethics.

Eli is both a clinical and pastoral counsellor, and a psychodynamic psychotherapist.

So far as the clinical aspect is concerned, she is professionally trained to deal with behavioural and emotional issues, finding their origin in present or past experiences, either held firmly in one’s memory or forgotten.

The pastoral side provides a professional care that takes into account a person’s beliefs and the healing process is tailored within the respect of such belief, be it cultural, spiritual, or racial. Personal values are then integrated in the counselling process.

Everyone is welcome to a safe space that is characterised by positive unconditional regard, where trust and therapeutical alliance can grow and thrive. It is only in such an environment that people feel confident enough to share personal and intimate concerns that are handled with the outmost care to bring on the desired transformation.

As a psychotherapist, Eli is trained to diagnose mental illnesses and provides treatment through the use of an array of techniques, such as BT (behavioural therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy), PTSD Therapy, Mindfulness and Relaxation, and others.

When the treatment necessitates specific drugs she works in conjunction with psychiatrists to ensure that the patient receives complete attention through the issuing of correct prescriptions.

Another area where Eli provides help is addictions and personality issues, such as:

  •        Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD -compulsions one cannot control) and obsessive-compulsive                personality disorder (OCPD).

  •         Panic disorders and social anxiety disorders.

  •         Specific phobias, a paralyzing fear of common objects, situations or places.

  •         Childhood grief, sexual abuse, depression.

When working with couples and families, the difficulties are often the outcome of combined unresolved issues brought into the relationship by both partners that may go back as far as childhood. In these cases, individual therapy to work may be advisable through personal dysfunctions and thereafter to resume couple’s therapy at a later stage.

Eli also works for several Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) providers worldwide and is a Psychological 1st Aid Responder offering critical incident response interventions.

Eli continues to be actively involved with community service, providing counselling and psychotherapist services to several charities, such as the Cancer Support Group 06 (CSG06).
